What is a Usability Test?

Usability assesses whether user interfaces are easy to use or not. It is a key component to improve a user interface design considering multiple components like efficiency, satisfaction and learnability.

A usability test puts to test whether the interface features are pleasant to use and if they communicate content in the most optimal manner.

Task 1: Find and Compare Macbook Options.

1m 37s

The user was able to find a Macbook almost immediately, but struggled to find the compare functionality. They missed the compare option when it showed up in the drop down menu when hovering over the "Mac" option.

The compare option in the menu can be enlarged or highlighted by using an italic font. Currently, the option is in a smaller font size.

Task 2: Find the Nearest Store.

17s

The user did not struggle with this task. They navigated to the 'Store' option in the navigation bar and successfully found the link for finding a store in the drop down menu.

Task 3: Sign Up for an Apple Credit Card.

26.15s

For this task, the option for a card does not appear at all under any of the navigation bar options.
The user quickly realized this. They then made use of the search bar and searched for 'credit card' to find the page.

The navigation bar can have a 'Apple Card' option explicitly on the navigation bar.

Task 4: Look for Repair Options.

15s

The user navigated to this page with fair ease by finding the 'Repair' option under 'Support' in the navigation menu.
This took a bit longer since graphics on the website are slow to load sometimes.

The website could use graphics of a smaller size in order to ensure efficient loading.

Task 5: Purchase an AirTag.

15s

The user eventually gained a better sense of the search bar and successfully completed this task.
They preferred to search for AirTag options using this method even though it is listed under the 'Accessories' from the navigation bar.

The number options should be decreased in the bar and in the drop down menus that appear after as well. This improves readability and does not tire out the user.

System Usability Scale (SUS)

What is the SUS?

The SUS provides a “quick and dirty”, reliable tool for measuring the usability.
